Steps to your Exam Success

  • Determine your eligibility to participate,

  • Complete your registration application & payment,

  • Complete on or before the deadline 5pm on Weds., Nov. 17, 2021 your PES Projected Personality Interpreter (PPI), through the PES PPI portal (see detailed notes below),

  • Bring your updated resume and cover letter for collection on the morning of the exam.

  • The Physical Fitness Test will be held immediately following the written exam. Wear appropriate workout attire and bring water.

  • Stay up-to-date on exam announcements on the PES website at www.policeexamsolutions.com.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college/university, or equivalent credits towards a degree, and/or Military or Law Enforcement experience.

  • Ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts Class A License to Carry Firearms,

  • At least 21 years old on date of examination,

  • Must pass entrance examination,

  • Must pass oral interviews,

  • Must pass a thorough background investigation prior to employment,

    • No person, who has been convicted of a felony or any offense punishable under M.G.L. Chapter 94C (drug law violations); or has been convicted of a misdemeanor and has been confined to any jail or house of correction as punishment for said crime, M.G.L. Chapter 22C section 14, will be considered for employment.

  • Must pass physical fitness test,

  • Must pass medical examination,
  • Must pass psychological examination,

  • Must be a United States citizen upon appointment to the Police Academy,

  • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver's license on date of appointment, and

  • In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 22 C section 10, no officer or student officer appointed or hired after January 1, 1988 shall smoke any tobacco product.

Basic Duties of

a RPD Police Officer

Duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, a number of general police responsibilities necessary to the stability and safety of the community. A Patrol Officer shall be expected to:

  • Identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings.

  • Reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventative patrol and other measures.

  • Aid individuals who are in danger of physcial harm.

  • Facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

  • Identify problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems.

  • Create and maintain a feeling of security in the community.

  • Promote and preserve the peace.

  • Provide other services on an emergency basis.

  • Protect constitutional guarantees.

  • Assist those who cannot care for themselves.

Exam Logistics, Deadlines & General Info.

EXAM LOGISTICS:

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE WRITTEN EXAM.

  • ​Date: Saturday, November 20, 2021

  • Location: Reading Memorial High School, 62 Oakland Road, Reading, MA

  • Check-in: Begins at 8:15am. Doors close at 9:00am. No entry after 9:00am

  • What to Bring: Resume and cover letter, (2) No. 2 pencils, your valid photo ID, Face mask, & water.

  • What NOT to Bring: No smart devices or cell phones. If you are found with any device, you will immediately be disqualified and asked to leave the testing site. No exceptions!

  • The Physical Fitness Test will be held immediately following the written exam. Wear appropriate athletic attire and bring water.


DEADLINES:


  • Exam Registration ends at 9am Weds., November 17, 2021

  • PPI & CIR must be completed by 5pm Weds., November 17, 2021. If you need assistance accessing or completing this portion, it is your responsibility to contact Police Exam Solutions, to ensure you meet this deadline.


EXAM STAGE I: PPI COMPONENT - The first part of the examination process is the Candidate Insight Report (CIR), and the Projected Personality Interpreter (PPI). While you are not scored on this component, completion of your PPI is a prerequisite to sitting for the written exam. There are two sections in this process. The CIR and the PPI. You must complete both sections in order to successfully submit your PPI component.


  • The CIR will require you to complete a series of questions regarding your demographics, and your skills and qualifications for the job.

  • The PPI consists of 10 essay questions. Utilizing IBM Watson AI technology, the PPI is used to identify the top key personality traits possessed by candidates. A candidate will not be hired or eliminated from consideration for hire, based on this feedback.


PPI NOTE: BE ON THE LOOKOUT! Upon your successful registration acceptance, the PPI portal will automatically email you a set of access instructions. DEADLINE TO COMPLETE THE PPI:  5pm, November 17, 2021. Failure to complete the PPI component by the deadline, will result in your automatic disqualification. If you do not see your PPI invite in your 'In' box, search for the email from 'admin.ppi-portal.com'. If you are unable to locate your invite, contact PES directly to assist you with your account setup.

EXAM STAGE II: WRITTEN EXAM - The second part of the exam process is the written exam. Your exam was developed to measure the key skills, abilities and other characteristics required for job success. You will be allotted 2.5 hours to complete your exam.


PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST: All candidates, including transfer candidates, must participate in the Physical Fitness Test immediately following the completion of the written exam. MAKE-UP EXAM: No make-up exams are scheduled.

​

SCORE TRANSFERS: The Reading PD will accept score transfers. Only PES scores received during 2021 are eligible for transfer. To learn more about the transfer process, click here.


IF you are transferring your score, you are required to report to the exam location for the Physical Fitness Test at 11:00am, Saturday November 20, 2021. You are also required to bring your resume and cover letter before you are eligible to participate in the Fitness Test. Failure to show for the Fitness Test will result in your score transfer disqualification.

RESULTS: Typically, results will be made available within 7-10 business days after the exam.

​

​REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES: No refunds or exchanges will be granted.
