Tyngsborough Police Department

Tyngsborough Police Department is a progressive, community-oriented police department consisting of 27 full time sworn officers, 2 reserve officers and 7 full time dispatchers that provides both traditional and non-traditional police service to a town of approximately 12,000 residents located in the Merrimack Valley.


The department enjoys an outstanding relationship with its community, and the men and women of the department take pride to keep Tyngsborough one of the most sought-after communities in the area to live in. To accomplish that mission, we must continue to attract the brightest, most qualified and most capable candidates to our ranks.

The Tyngsborough Police Department anticipates Full-Time and Reserve Officer positions to be hired off of this examination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BY REGISTERING FOR THIS EXAM, YOU AGREE THAT YOU MEET THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS. All candidates for employment as sworn police officers must meet the following qualifications. Failure to do so may result in your disqualification for employment.

  1. Must be 21 years of age at the time of the exam.

  2. Must be a non-Smoker pursuant to M.G.L. c41, s101A.

  3. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. at time of exam. Preference may be given to applicants possessing a college degree, military experience, or a combination of both.

  4. Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.

  5. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, or obtain one prior to appointment.  

  6. Must possess, or qualify for, a Massachusetts Firearms License to Carry (LTC) permit, class-A.  

  7. Must not have ANY felony convictions.

  8. Must pass written entrance examination.

  9. Must pass a physical fitness test.

  10. Must complete a satisfactory background examination.

  11. Must complete a medical and psychological examination, provided by the Town of Tyngsborough.

  12. Must possess the ability to complete all the requirements established by the Massachusetts Municipal Training Council to be a certified police officer in Massachusetts.

  13. Satisfactory completion of Oral board interviews.

IMPORTANT EXAM DAY DETAILS:

EXAM DATE: Saturday, June 13, 2020

LOCATION: To Be Determined

CHECK-IN begins at 8:15am.  Doors close promptly at 9:00am. No admittance after 9:00am.

DEADLINE for Registration:  The deadline to register is midnight on Wednesday, June 10th, or when the maximum number of participants has been reached.

EXAM CONFIRM: A courtesy exam confirmation letter will be emailed once the registration period has ended.​ This is sent out only as a courtesy reminder notice. As such, you are ultimately responsible for knowing in advance all the exam details needed for Saturday's test!

EACH CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO:

  • Submit your completed online Candidate Questionnaire and Essay Questions no later than 9:00am, Friday June 12th, or you will be disqualified. Do not wait until the last minute as you will want to make sure you have no problem logging in to complete your submissions. If you wait until the the last minute, we will not have the necessary time to provide technical support, and

  • Bring to the exam your valid photo ID, and (2) No. 2 pencils. You may also bring a water.

  • Do NOT bring your cell phone or any other smart device with you to the exam. NO EXCEPTIONS! Anyone found with a smart device will be automatically disqualified from the testing process, and asked to leave.

  • If you are called for an interview, you will be required to submit a resume and cover letter, complete a job application, as well as, provide any college transcripts (copies are acceptable), and proof of honorable discharge from the military. You are not required, nor should you bring, any of these items with you to the exam.
