The Town of Sharon, population 17,500 is a highly educated, residential area with a beautiful landscape. People move to Sharon for the school system and for its natural beauty. Sharon is located between Boston, MA and Providence, RI. We enjoy strong alliances with surrounding towns and often work together on large projects like the Marijuana Facility.
The Town of Sharon is home to 2 Mosques, many Temples, Churches and a
diverse population from many parts of the world. There is a large Asian, Russian,
Middle Eastern, and East Indian population.

The Sharon Police Department is made up of 31 full time Police Officers, several Special Police officers, and 6 civilian Dispatchers.

Minimum Qualifications
All candidates for employment as sworn police officers must meet the following qualifications. By registering for this exam, you agree that you meet these minimum qualifications. Failure to do so may result in your disqualification for employment.
Must be a United States Citizen;
Be at least 21 years of age at the time of the written examination;
Be able to pass the written examination for Police Officer. Candidates who pass the exam may be considered for further processing based on education, Military Service, Paramedic or EMT certification, second language proficiency, Sharon resident, prior public service, or prior law enforcement experience;
Be a high school graduate or possess a General Equivalency Diploma. Preference may be given to those candidates that have a college degree, or be an active member of the military or honorably discharged;
Be a non-smoker;
Pass the background investigation. A thorough investigation of each candidate will be conducted. The investigation will include, at a minimum, the verification of a candidate's qualifying credentials, a criminal history records check, Registry of Motor Vehicles check, an employment history check, verification of at least (5) personal references, and interview with previous employers, coworkers, and current and past neighbors;
Not be a convicted felon, or have any equivalent convictions that would be a felony in Massachusetts. If the checks do not reveal any issues, a minimum of fifteen candidates will move to the second step in the process and participate in a preliminary review. Candidates selected for further consideration must submit a completed background investigation packet, sign an Authorization for Release of Information Form, and produce any required documentation;
Successfully pass a drug and alcohol screen;
Possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license;
Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm;
Have the ability to pass a physical exam and the Physical Abilities Test. The Municipal Police Training Counsel also administers a Cooper Test before each Academy. Sharon Police personnel will administer a pre test prior to offering conditional hire to any candidate. A physical examination will be conducted by a licensed physician. Prior to being accepted to a basic recruit academy, candidates must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT), administered by the Massachusetts Human Resources Division. The PAT consists of events that require candidates to perform simulations of activities that are a part of a police officer's job;
Be able to pass the psychological examination. All candidates who accept a conditional offer of employment will undergo a psychological evaluation. The evaluation will be conducted in two (2) phases; a written test/evaluation and a clinical evaluation. A licensed psychologist or psychiatrist will conduct the psychological screening;
Have the ability to pass the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Academy in order to achieve basic certification as a Police Officer. The probationary period for the student police officer is one (1) year following successful completion of a Municipal Police Training Committee certified Academy;
Have a strong character background;
Be expected to maintain a professional appearance; and
Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Sharon Police Officer.

Once the registration deadline is met on October 21st, and the number of participating candidates is confirmed, the exact Sharon PD session dates will be determined. At this point, you will receive instructions and an invitation to book your desired exam session directly from our proctoring firm. This email will detail the instructions and hardware/software requirements necessary for your participation.

For your informational purposes, we have provided a few important at-a-glance highlights below.
There will be no additional cost to candidates.
You MUST meet minimum requirements for accepted hardware. On the date of your test, you will be required to have 2 devices:
A mobile smartphone or tablet, and
A desktop or laptop PC running Windows 7 or later.

Currently, the in-home testing is only available for Windows PC’s. The Testing Application is not compatible with Apple Macintosh’s or Google Chromebook’s. If you do not have access to a Windows PC, we suggest you borrow or rent one for the day of your exam.

The at home testing sessions are 3 hours and 30 minutes long. The entire exam must be completed in one session.
We will be hosting a number of sessions across a few weekdays during October 26-30, 2020. Typically, we will be offering two sessions per day: one in the morning and another in the afternoon. You will receive an invitation to reserve the test date and time that best suits your schedule from the choices available. We do not offer additional make-up dates/times, nor are weekend sessions available.
Transfer of prior PES scores: We have worked to integrate this benefit across the @Home Testing process, and are pleased to offer this service to anyone with a 2019 PES exam score received during the period of 9.1.19-12.31.20, the opportunity to transfer your score, without participating in the Sharon PD @Home Testing. Your score transfer must be completed once the result of your score is available, and/or before October 21st. Instructions for this process can be found here.
You must complete your PPI essay component 5 days before your scheduled exam. If you do not fulfill this requirement, you will be disqualified and NOT permitted to participate in the exam. We advise you to complete this as soon as possible to avoid this situation. You can access your portal by visiting http://sharon.ppi-portal.com, and logging in with your email and password. If you did not receive your email (automatically generated the second your registration and payment were successfully processed), please search your email box. The "from" address on the email is admin.ppi-portal.com. Your initial portal setup must be made from the link contained in this email. If you do not find your copy, please contact us at info@policeexamsolutions.com as soon as possible, so we are able to assist you and allowing plenty of time for your completion.
If you are called for an interview, you may be required to submit a resume and cover letter, complete a job application, as well as provide any college transcripts (copies are acceptable), and proof of honorable discharge from military.
DEADLINE for Registration: The deadline to register is midnight on Wednesday, October 21st, or when the maximum number of participants has been reached, whichever comes first.
